capital campaign

With long-term improvements to the roof and the porch completed, the Friends can now turn their attention to the church’s valuable community space downstairs.

This heavily used space is little changed since the 1950s. It needs improvements for accessibility and safety. Under extreme circumstances, the building will serve as Tyringham’s emergency shelter, a true safe haven.

The need to replace the unpredictable furnace is driving this major project. The unforgettable 2023 Christmas Eve Candlelight service was celebrated in an historic way – without heat.

  • Utilities upgrade – heating, electrical, plumbing

  • Insulation

  • Handicapped access to all levels

  • New entries to the basement, and attending to bowing foundation wall near the main entrance

  • Installation of new gutters, improved subsurface drainage.

  • Upgrade the kitchen

  • Repainting the south, west and north sides of the church

Recently multiple Berkshire County churches have closed their doors. The Friends for the Preservation of Union Church is committed to the preservation of Tyringham’s most conspicuous public landmark as a spiritual gathering place and community resource in both good times and at times of challenge.
